Gyang’s talent is undeniable. We named him one of the ‘Best of the Rest’ distance freestyle recruits in the Way Too Early list for the high school class of 2027, but his skills extend far beyond long-distance swimming. He boasts Summer Nationals cuts in the 100/200 free, Summer Juniors cuts in the 50/500 free, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM, and Winter Juniors cuts in the 1000 free and 200 fly. Talk about versatility!
His recent performances speak volumes about his growth. Over the summer, Gyang shaved significant time off his long-course meters (LCM) events, including an 11.8-second drop in the 800 free, a 9-second improvement in the 200 back (an event he hadn’t swum since 2023), and a 7.9-second cut in the 200 breast. He wrapped up the season at the NCSA Summer Championships, where he placed 9th in the 50 free (23.31, PB), 9th in the 100 free (51.07, PB), and 4th in the 200 free (1:51.82, PB), among other impressive finishes.
In the 2024-25 short-course season, Gyang continued to shine. At the CA/NV Sectionals in December, he secured podium finishes in the 50 free (3rd), 200 free (2nd), and 200 IM (8th), while setting personal bests in the 200 and 500 free. He followed this up with strong performances at the Justin Sectionals in March, lowering his 100 free PB and adding a new lifetime best in the 200 fly.
