FIA Karting Shootout: Valencia's Next Generation of Champions (2026)

Get ready, racing fans! The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) is revving up the engines for the future of motorsport with the inaugural FIA Karting Shootout, set to take place in Valencia, Spain, from December 2nd to 7th, 2025. This isn't just another race; it's a comprehensive program designed to identify and nurture the next generation of racing champions.

The Aspar Karting Circuit in Valencia will be the battleground where young talents will be put through their paces. The event's core is to educate, evaluate, and assess drivers across various aspects: driving skills, technical knowledge, physical fitness, and mental agility. Over five action-packed days, participants will engage in practical sessions and workshops. Then, they'll face a series of on-track assessments and off-track examinations, all overseen by a panel of experienced judges. The goal? To reward well-rounded drivers as they begin their ascent up the motorsport ladder.

Junior drivers will be showcasing their skills in karts provided by Parolin Motorsport, with LeCont as the official tyre supplier. Meanwhile, senior drivers will take a significant step in their careers by being evaluated in Formula 4 cars supplied by Campos, with Pirelli as the official tyre supplier and event partner. This dual approach underscores the FIA's commitment to driver development, supporting senior drivers in their transition to car racing while promoting safe, fair, and exciting competition from the start.

A select group of only 24 drivers have earned their spot at the FIA Karting Shootout, thanks to their outstanding performances in FIA Karting championships and events throughout the year. The invitation list includes the 2025 FIA Karting OK and OK-J World Champions, OK-N and OK-NJ World Cup winners, and the Academy Trophy winners. Adding to the excitement, the top three finishers from the Senior and Junior categories of the recent Arrive and Drive World Cup have also received an invitation, including Junior winner Troy Ferguson and Senior winner Zach Tucker.

By recognizing success across all FIA Karting disciplines, the event is a cornerstone of the FIA's Global Karting Plan, launched last year. This plan aims to grow karting at the grassroots level by introducing new international karting events, such as the FIA Karting Arrive and Drive World Cup, which will debut in Malaysia later this month.

The FIA Karting Shootout is set to significantly strengthen and elevate the FIA Karting ecosystem. It establishes clear pathways for progression between junior and senior karting categories, and from senior karting to single-seater cars. By offering drivers rewards and comprehensive support, the FIA is creating a gold standard framework for those aspiring to begin their racing careers within FIA competitions, offering them opportunities for growth, excellence, and success.

But here's where it gets controversial... The prizes are designed to be career-changing. The junior winner will receive support for their next step in the FIA Karting pyramid, including free tires, fuel, and entries for up to five FIA Karting events in 2026, plus either a financial contribution of 6,000 euros per event to an FIA Karting team or a free entry to one of the FIA Arrive and Drive Continental Championships in 2026. The 2nd and 3rd place junior finishers will also receive similar benefits.

The senior winner, however, will receive a massive financial contribution of 250,000 euros towards a team in an approved FIA-certified Formula 4 Championship. This significant investment is designed to transform their prospects and propel their racing careers forward.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA President, emphasized the importance of the event: “The FIA Karting Shootout is the latest initiative in our FIA Global Karting Plan, designed to empower and develop the next generation of racing talent. By investing in education, driver assessment, and financial support, this event will recognise talented drivers and help raise personal and professional standards both on and off the track.”

Akbar Ebrahim, FIA Karting Commission President, added, “The FIA Karting Shootout is the latest way we are supporting driver development, raising the quality and standards of racing, whilst investing in the drivers’ personal and professional development. The prestigious prizes on offer will transform the motor sport prospects of the winners whilst FIA Karting Shootout participation will be a prestigious certification for any young driver to achieve at the start of their career. I look forward to welcoming our first cohort to Valencia later this year.”
