Breaking News: The Washington Capitals Send Goaltender Garin Bjorklund to Hershey!
On December 13, 2025, the Capitals, in partnership with the Hershey Bears, made a significant move. They've loaned goaltender Garin Bjorklund to Hershey, as announced by Chris Patrick, the Washington senior vice president and general manager.
Bjorklund, who is 23 years old, has a current record of 4-4-1 with a 3.01 goals-against average, a .895 save percentage, and one shutout in nine games played with Hershey this season. He previously showcased his skills with the Bears in the 2024-25 season, boasting a 2-0-0 record, a 1.49 goals-against average, and an impressive .942 save percentage. His American Hockey League debut with Hershey on March 26 saw him make 26 saves in a 4-1 victory against Bridgeport.
But here's where his journey gets even more interesting: Last season, the Grande Prairie, Alberta native, had a stellar performance with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). He recorded a 21-4-3 record, a 2.02 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage, and one shutout in 29 games. This earned him the second spot in the ECHL for goals-against average and third for save percentage, playing a crucial role in the Stingrays' Brabham Cup championship win.
And this is the part most people miss: The Capitals initially drafted Bjorklund in the sixth round, 179th overall, during the 2020 NHL Draft.
Controversy Alert: Does this loan signal a strategic move for Hershey, or does it hint at something more for Bjorklund's future with the Capitals? What do you think this means for Bjorklund's career trajectory? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
